Now in its tenth year, after successive ground-breaking Summits at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Texas A&M University, the University of California San Diego, the University of Tennessee, a Virtual Summit, and Sun Valley Idaho, the Advanced Reactors Summit X will once again meet in-person to bring leading industry experts, top executives, policymakers, and thought leaders within the nuclear industry together.

 

The AR Summit X will continue its focus on showcasing technology developers and advancing solutions on the cost and deployment timeframe of advanced reactors, as well as practical ideas and concepts that have the potential of significantly improving advanced reactor design, deployment, and operations.

Friday's Optional Tour will consist of site visits to the Energy Production & Infrastructure Center at UNC Charlotte; Electric Power Research Institute; and Siemens' Charlotte Advanced Technology Collaboration Hub (CATCH). The bus will depart the Sheraton Hotel at 8:30 AM and return to the Sheraton around 4:30 PM. Lunch will be provided. Advance registration is required.

Energy Production & Infrastructure Center at UNC Charlotte

The Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) at UNC Charlotte was formed in response to the need from industry to supply highly trained engineers qualified to meet the demands of the energy industry – through traditional and continuing education, and provide sustainable support the Carolina energy industry by increasing capacity and support for applied research.  EPIC is a highly collaborative industry/education partnership that produces a technical workforce, advancements in technology for the global energy industry while supporting the Carolinas' multi-state economic and energy security.

Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub

The Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub is the company’s worldwide hub for 60 Hz power generating equipment. Opened in 1969, the facility has manufactured and serviced generators and steam turbines for the power generation market for decades. In November 2011, the facility celebrated the opening of a new expansion, adding gas turbine production and service capabilities. The new Gas Turbine facility was designed based on LEAN manufacturing principles and certified for U.S. LEED Gold green building standards, making it the most advanced gas turbine production plant in operation. The expansion represents a $350 million total investment in Charlotte, adding 1,000 jobs. With its current workforce of 1,500 and more than one million square feet of space under roof, Siemens Energy in Charlotte has become the largest manufacturer in the city and the second largest among the 250+ Energy companies based in Charlotte.
